When a healthy person experiences some major disappointment in life, the feeling of loss can be followed by a few days of sadness, withdrawal, anxiety, but it is not long before the person comes back to normal.

When the depressed person faces a major catastrophe in his life, he has the same mental, and emotional symptoms, previously described in the healthy individual. In addition, he suffers physical affects that can disable him and keep him from having a full life. Some of these physical signs are a loss of appetite, interrupted sleep or sleeping disorder, and a significant decrease or change in the ordinary activities. All of these symptoms can lead to a general loss of pleasure and motivation in life, and can be a dangerous indication of “clinical depression” that can last for 12 months or more.

When your feelings of happiness are being altered by the moodiness exhibited by a depressed person you happen to be with, then you better be prepared to fight against those negative feelings so you won’t become miserable yourself. Negativity causes stress, and stress is the killer of all times and ages. If you overlook the negative influence that unhappy individuals may have on you, stress may begin working inside of you without any awareness of its affect on your body.

Many people like to believe that they are in total control of their behavior even if it’s against the nature of human experiences. In contrast, the evidence shows that behavior is emotionally driven and is not consciously controlled. In truth, negative emotions inhabit negative behavior, the same way positive emotions make a positive personality.
